Never Was There A Tale Of Such Woe...As That Of My Computer And I

It all started with my mom needing my assistance with a resume. As if it knew the
pain and suffering to come, the computer simply refused to give us the chance.

The problem was so terrible that I was forced to replace the hardrive. That was weeks ago.

The latest terror inficted by the angry technology gods was a destructive virus that required a 3 1/2 hour phone call to Dell support to rectify. It has been an exhaustive and laborious couple of weeks for the computer and I. Now hopefully, all has been made right and I can resume my hermit-like (internet loving) existence without trepidation.

Really the worst part has been losing the convenience of doing my homework in the comfort of my own home (translation: in my jammies). I mean really what is the point of having entirely internet based classes when I've had to go to the college everyday? That, and now I'm behind on my youtube subscriptions...*ahem* I mean behind on my economics project, yes that is FAR more important than meaningless internet distractions...*nervous laughter*

To Whom It May Concern

To those who celebrate Valentine's Day, I wish you a happy one. To those of us who don't or only barely care, I hope someone gives you chocolate anyway.

That said, I will be off to Lindrith in the morning to (hopefully) play videogames and watch movies 'til my eyes bleed and brain oozes out of my ears (a charming image).

speaking of videogames, there's a small bit of news to bring up.I got a new Xbox 360! *insert audience cheering and applause*

I'm really quite in love with it already, we just beat our first game together, "Batman Arkham Asylum." I highly reccomend BAA by the way, at least as a rental. I have to say, maybe it is the brainwashing I underwent in my formative years, growing up watching Batman the animated series, but in my heart I recognize Mark Hamill will always be my favorite joker. Sorry Heath (you're #2 and that ain't bad). The Joker is just so awesome in this game and Mark Hamill's performance is just so delightful (to add to the fun Kevin Conroy provides the voice for Batman ^__^)

So, on an entirely different subject I present: my favorite buddy cop duo since Turner and Hooch, that's right it's RORSCHACH AND DEADPOOL! (a nut and a fool!)

<lj-embed id="12" />

(It occurs to me that it's not "a different subject if I cluster Batman, Deadpool, and Rorschach under the topic of superheros, but that was not at all intentional... so yeah)

I'm Finally Warm And Toasty

BLEGH!!! So, yes I accidently let my propane go out last night. When I called the propane company for an emergency delivery the man told me something that made me both a little happy and a little sad @ the same time. He asked which house was mine and if it was the house with the dog in the backyard. I was afraid that I was THAT customer, you know, the one that has THAT dog that is always harassing the drivers, barking and being a general nuisance. I informed him that the dog would definitely not be there today. Instead of sounding relieved, the gentleman sounded disappointed. "Too bad, I love that dog!" He said." I always throw a stick for him when I deliver to your house." I was not in the least bit aware of this, and it warmed my heart a bit...then, despite this moment of mutual dog adoration, he charged me an x-tra $75 for the emergency delivery. Echhh. Between that and the personal heaters I had to run to Wal-mart to buy @ 8:30 last night, this has been one of this most expensive weekends I've had in which I bought nothing that I really wanted.

"It Tried To Eat My Raymond!"

Been working hard, but I still can't seem to get a 95% on an economics test *sigh* oh well. 80's and 90's aren't nuthin' to be ashamed of.

Studying now complete I suppose it is off to bed with me. But before I go, I leave you all with this: http://news.yahoo.com/video/us-15749625/17935363 a tale of terror and survival.

I was trying to think about just why this video has been amusing me so much, and I think I've stumbled upon the answer. The lady being interviewed, her suspicious account of the terrifying event notwithstanding, reminds me most definitely of the neighbor lady in "Frankenweenie." Remember? the Tim Burton movie where the kid brings his dog back to life after a fatal accident?

Anyway, keep a weather eye open and beware those deceptively adorable beagle menaces to society.

Good Night

Farewell To A Friend

I have some life changing news, both happy and sad.

Sunday night I had to take my dog, Slick, to the vet @ 7:30 P.M. under emergency conditions. Slick was dying. He made it to the vet alive, but just barely. He more or less began dying in the Vet's arms before she got him to a table.

Slick had been in questionable health for a few weeks at that point. I had noticed he wasn't eating very much, and at the suggestion of my mom, I started feeding him beef and rice and he appeared to be improving. It was like he would get better for a few days and then he'd be worse. I assumed he was just taking issue with the new diet food I'd been feeding him. So my mom had planned to take him to the Vet on Monday.

The Veterinarian told me that his liver had shut down. The two main causes for his symptoms would have been either he ingested something toxic, or he was showing signs of cancer. I never had reason to think that he had gotten into something he shouldn't have, but the cancer probability doesn't seem to fit well either. Regardless, Slick is no longer with us.

How can there possibly be any happy news to be found in this? I've talked with my mom, cried a little (well a lot really), and woken up in the night panicked, thinking I'd forgotten to let the dog in. Well, I've been giving it a lot of thought, and there were so many good memories attached to my time with him. I remember the puppy years, and how he peed on some guy on his first trip out in public. I think about his obsession with chasing his tail when he was a little older and the most memorable aspect of his life for me and most anyone who met him, was his obsessive need to fetch things. Sticks, balls, toys (one time he fetched a quarter for me lol).

It turns out my mom was right, we had good times he and I, and those are the parts I need to dwell on. Yeah, I still feel sad, and it's weird not to have him in the house at night. I know some people don't understand all the emotions involved when you lose a pet that you had a bond with. It's true I am a little embarrassed, but then again I don't really care. I won't soon be forgetting him, I loved him very much.

I made a little video about Slick with some old pictures and a tiny bit of video I took this Christmas. Observe his never ending glee when it came to tennis balls…

<lj-embed id="13" />

Delighted to find a meaningful romance OR distressed at another film that glorifies infidelity?

I just saw "Lost in Translation" for the 1st time and I am extremely uncertain how to feel about it.

Well, was the story well conceived and well written?

Yes, I have no complaints there.

Was the setting dull or uninteresting?

Certainly not, the locations in Tokyo are lovely and almost otherworldly, giving off an appropriate sense of aloneness or free spirited fun, depending on the situation.

Well, was it perhaps the actors that screwed up a good story with a great location?

Definitely big fat giant no. Scarlett Johansen and Bill Murray are amazing and charming and many other pleasant adjectives as well.

So why am I so confused about my feelings towards this Academy Award winning film? I guess it's not the movie I have a problem with per se. I suppose my discomfort really stems from the content of the story. I seem to have been subjected to a weird string of "romances" lately, in which the characters flat out refuse to be faithful to their partners. I don't want to spoil anything so be prepared...

This movie was no exception, our romantic leads are both married. No, they don't cheat on their spouses together in the physical sense, but they are unfaithful in an emotional (almost spiritual) way. To me that makes it seem so much sadder. I often found myself being entranced, angry, disgusted and supportive all at once.

It's not that I wanted to deny Bob EVERY single scrap of happiness, but really he had a clueless wife and kids at home. And Charolette, I felt bad for her I really did, but she had a chance to at least talk to her husband face to face instead of running away like Bob. I think I just have a hard time rooting for a romance, no matter how real or intimate or justified, that involves cheating on spouses (especially clueless ones) I dunno I just felt all at once icky and uplifted watching this movie.

Geez, I totally swear I did not mean to rant on this, and it is probably a sign of a very effective film if it's got me contemplating and pondering like this.

If you've seen "Lost In Translation" and have an opinion one way or the other I'd love to know what other people think about it. We could discuss it! Come on, you know you wanna!

The Luck of The McClane

I recently just re-watched the "Die Hard" trilogy and finished with seeing "Live free or Die" Hard" for the first time. McClane, you cannot kill him! That McClane is one lucky cowboy, to say the least. Geez, he's harder to kill than... I can't even think of any clever metaphors, he's THAT hardcore!

Something strange occured while I made this action packed, bullet riddled, explosive trip down memory lane. I watched trilogy out of order...I do not do that...My chronological order issues prohibit me from reading books/comics, seeing movies, and even occaisonally playing videogames out of order. I watched "Die Hard With A Vengeance" after "Die Hard" probably for the subconcious reason that I've always felt like these two stories belonged back to back, and I think that may have been how I first viewed them many moons ago. I personally could've done without "Die Hard 2: Die Harder" altogether and not missed much.

Speaking of not missing much "Live Free or Die Hard." It is a fourth installment in a series that didn't really need another movie. Nothing much was gained or added to the first three films. I suppose there is mild lamenting about John's aging and trying to remain relevant in today's tech driven society, but don't worry they don't spend so much time on character development that you'll miss any explodey special effects. The effects were nice, but the story seemed pointless to me.

To be fair, I watched it in a crappy mood. I spent today at home sick, popping ibuprofen and wadding tissues up my nose (A lovely mental image, I'm sure you'll agree). So really, theorectically the movie may not have been as bad as not breathing out of my left nostril for 8 hours would lead me to believe.

My favorite Die Hard movie is easily the third "Die Hard With a Vengeance" I love the revenge con story, anytime Jackson and Willis have a conversation, the awesome villainy of Jermey Irons and just the whole thing in general. I mean the writing is just good and the sub plot with Zeus and McClane is interesting as well as entertaining. To be fair, you really need the first movie for the third one to exist and make sense but it really is the best of the three (or four i guess urghh) though I REALLY like the first movie too.

So anyway, if you're thinking of re-watching this classic action movie trilogy (quadruply?), or maybe you've yet to see it (say it isn't so!), I would reccomend that they not all be watched at once, as they are much of the same type of movie. They seem to stand alone better than when watched as a outright marathon, but hey, that's just my sickly, phlegmy, fever induced opinion.

The Amazing Reading List Of 2009?!

OK, so the list isn't that fabulous, it's a bit pathetic really. There was so much I wanted to read this year that I never got around to, I actually read less books than last year *sniffle*! Remember, the list does not count fanfiction, manga, comics, one shot short stories, started but unfinished books or text books (why do I feel the need to have a disclaimer o.O).

Anyway, here is this year's list:

1) Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason - Helen Fielding

2) Four To Score - Janet Evanovich

3) Bridge To Terabithia - Katherine Paterson

(The book had me a little choked up and emotional. I also saw the movie this year, but it was the book that had me sniffling and contemplating the human imagination)

4) Blood Sucking Fiends - Christopher Moore

(I laughed through much of this book, I thought for the most part it was a great way to add something fresh to a vampire story)

5) Jurassic Park - Michael Crichton

(Do not read this if the movie holds anything resembling a special place in your heart)

6) The Second Summer Of The Sisterhood - Ann Brashares

7) High Five - Janet Evanovich

8) Hot Six - Janet Evanovich

9) The Lost World - Michael Crichton

(well even though I didn't particularly like the first one I HAD to read the sequel, sadly I didn't like it much either. I have a theory that Steven Spielberg is a "glass half full" type of person, while Crichton is a "glass half empty" type. I think this shows in their respective versions)

10) Anything Goes - John Barrowman With Carole E. Barrowman

(My obligatory (auto)biography for the year. John Barrowman is so pretty ^__^)

11) Seven Up - Janet Evanovich

12) The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Gothgirl - Barry Lyga

13?) OK I don't really think this counts at all but I', gonna add it to the list to make ir longer and shamelessly make it look like I've finished more books this year than I actually did: It's Hard Out There For A Shrimp - Pepe The King Prawn (as told to Jim Lavis)

14) Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging - Louise Rennison

15) Visions of Sugar Plums - Janet Evanovich

16) Star Trek: Ex Machina - Christopher L. Bennett

(This is the 1st Star Trek book I've ever read. I REALLY liked it. The Characters were good, the story was good and interesting, it wasn't perfect but it fit into the Star Trek Universe well. An interesting bit of trivia: this book was apparently a source of inspiration to the writers of the new ST film. They used it as an example of how to make a story that somehow fit within cannon of the original series but introduced new stuff too without messing with the following movies.Personally, I think the book did a better job of this than the movie, but whatever)

17) To The Nines - Janet Evanovich

(omg! I read sooooo much Evanovich this year!, I physically had to make myself stop because I was worried I would get burnt out on the series)

18) Heir To The Empire - Timothy Zahn

(my first Star Wars books, I STILL have not finished this series, not that it's bad i just...haven't urghh...)

19) Dark Force Rising - Timothy Zahn

So yeah, there you have it "The List" I am particularly shamed of this one, I have a bookcase full of awesomeness that goes untouched *sigh* oh well, 'tis a new year and I can start my list afresh! You would not believe how many books I started but did not finish, that's a whole nuther list!

More, I Want To Hear Of More Memorable Laughs!!!

So, Best Laugh update. So far four people have revealved their beloved laughs and those laughs are: Rene Auberjonois as Louis in "The Little Mermaid" the french chef guy (hee hee hee ho ho ho), Sandra Bullock as Gracie Hart in "Miss Congeniality" (it's the snorting that seals it), Seth McFarlane as Peter Griffin in "Family Guy" and another tie! This time it's Akira Kamiya as Professor Tomoe in the "Sailor Moon" series (I think this one is japanese voice actor specific) and Fran Drescher as Fran Fine from "The Nanny" television show.

Best Laugh Ever?

So, I was thinking recently about what would be considered the best film laughs of all time. Those laughs that are so full of mirth you can't stop from laughing too OR laughs so outrageous they will ne'r be forgotten.

I thought, and I pondered…in all the movies and t.v. programs I've seen in my life what is my favorite laugh?

In the end, I was forced to go with two laughs because I couldn't choose between them. They both are memorable because of their ability to make me laugh too(every time).

First, Leon Rippy's laugh as John Billings from the movie "The Patriot." You know that guy who's one of Mel Gibson's neighbors who joins the militia. He commits suicide after Tavington's men kill his wife and son. I think he laughs a grand total of two times, but that laugh will never leave me, I loudly chortle every time I hear it (but not when he commits suicide, 'cause that's just sick).

As good as that laugh is, I could not let it hold the #1 title all on its own. Tied for 1st is Frank Oz's laugh as Yoda from "Star Wars." 'Nuff said. I can't even hear someone do an impersonation of this laugh without cracking a smile.

So, here's the thing, I want to know what other laughs plague the memories of film goers and televisions watchers. I'm not saying my choices are in any way the best laughs ever, but they are certainly the MOST memorable for me. Maybe memorable isn't the right word, because I remember many great laughs. But they stick out, they're always on the tip of my tongue (so to speak) and they always elicit a reaction from me. The mark of a great or memorable laugh is the strength of the reaction it causes (whether that be fear, glee, or squirting milk out your nose). I would love to hear what some other people consider their personal all time favorite laugh, so I will post this in multiple places in an effort to get the attention of as many people as possible.

1 Up Whoo!

What did I get in the mail yesterday? Why yes, it was my long awaited box full o' awesome.

Huzzah!

I recently bought a Nintendo (NES), and fortunately its conditon is just how the seller said it would be. What the seller did not tell me though, was how much emotional, nostalgic, fondness I was going to have for this gaming console. Like many kids my age, it was my first, and in the words of Tim McGraw: "A heart don't forget somthin' like that." Though to be fair, it is highly unlikely that writer/composers Keith Follese and Rick Ferrell (why do I know that!?!?!) were referencing Nintendo when they wrote that song (but hey, you never know...).

Anyway, so I've been playing Super Mario Bros. and lamenting the fact that the zapper that came with it does not work, and I cannot play Duckhunt (woe t.t).

My mom was here this weekend, and I even got her to play a little lol! It was kind of surreal, but overall it evoked only happy memories of them good ole' days.

He Remembers It So I Don't Have To

Glee and Economics, two words never expected to be seen together in the same sentence (but I see through their trenchcoat disguises). A few weeks ago, I reunited the two estranged words when I managed a 90% on an Economics project that was literally consuming my soul! The only thing that helped me through was a certain internet celebrity who eased the pain with his NOSTLGIA based movie CRITICisms (if you are hip to my code, which is really just plain stupid, you deserve a cookie).

Now that it has passed and the end of the semester is nigh, I was feeling a strange sense of elation, and then...oh then, I remembered. I still have to take MACROeconomics! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! The humanity!

But I shall not let this bring me down, no, not this weekend. THIS is the weekend of hangin' with my mom and eatin' pie and playing Wahoo! (YAY PIE!) I shall let the pie lull me into a false sense of security so that I will forget the oncoming pain inherent to all economics courses.

So, to all a Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your friends, family, your vacation (and most of all your pie).

Holy Batgirl, Batman!

So yes, a quick update for October. For Halloween, my office hosts a themed children’s walkthrough event for the kids of company employees. Different groups within ConocoPhillips choose different themes and decorate office spaces. This year our group is doing a *drum roll* super hero theme (and I get to participate huzzah!). So, yes we shall dress as superheroes and hand out candy. I get to be Batgirl! Fitting? Hmm…

Yesterday, instead of helping with decorations, I went home due to the snowy weather. But my time was not entirely wasted, no. I spent my time compiling a Superhero Soundtrack to be played during the walkthrough (the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Batman” theme songs are amongst my favorites). ^__^

Needless to say, I am super excited about tomorrow.

In other news, well there’s not much other news really. I’ve just been watching “Heroes” and doing interior design for the Hermit Crabs lol.

I also watched the 1st episode of Venture Bros. Season 4, and as anticipated, it is fabulous. But I must not fall prey to Adult Swim’s Enticing, next day airing. I must await the dvd!

Also, Saw custest things ever at The Pet store today. A pile of maybe ten or fifteen tiny, baby bunnehs and two or three of their guinea pig friends all snuggled as close as bunnily possible to keep warm. And when I thought there could be nothing cuter, I turned around and saw a pile of six or so kittens likewise curled in a pile. I did quite well at containing my squee until in his unbelievably adorable sleepiness, one of the kittens fell (cutely) off the little ledge he was sleeping on ^__^ It was absolutely cute overload in there today, how I walked out of there without a tiny bunneh, I do not know.

hmm update not so quick once I got to talkin' about the cuteness...

Merc With(out) A Mouth

So, yesh. It’s been three weeks since the dog was neutered. Tomorrow the blasted, fraggin’ ever-loving’ cone comes off, Huzzah! His stitches should’ve come out a week ago but due to much stupidity, I had to wait an extra week.

In other news, I have been geeking out most spectacularly. It started simply enough when my “Deadpool Classic Vol. 1” arrived in the mail after many long, tortuous weeks of waiting. I <3 Deadpool ever so much. So I finished DP vol. 1 and 2 last weekend and am waiting patiently for November when “Deadpool Classic Vol. 3 shall be released (Yay!). If you are only familiar with the “X-men Origins: Wolverine” version of DP, you are truly missing out on loads of sarcasm, crazy, and all around brilliant comic goodness. It makes me totally psyched for the rumored Deadpool movie, that as far as I know, doesn’t even have a director yet :(

My Deadpool Kick led me on the search for Deadpool live journal icons, which in turn led me to the wonderful wonderful world of: ItsJustSomeRandomGuy (http://www.youtube.com/user/ItsJustSomeRandomGuy) and some truly fantastic videos on Youtube such as this one!

I <3 the Ryan Reynolds song (now I find out that you’re wearing someone else’s tights) and the allusion to the existence of Golden Girl slash fic (tee hee)

<lj-embed id="9" />

Lucille!

Ooh and the HP Parody ain’t bad either! (poor pressured Peter Parker, with great power comes great responsibility, haha)

<lj-embed id="11" />

I think the green goblin may just be a new favorite character as seen from the perspective of ItsJustSomeRandomGuy. Especially, in the Happy Hour Videos!

Let’s see I also have been watching the “Back to The Future” movies, I love Doc Brown’s hair so much…

Ooh and I also got my copy of the “Bone One Volume Edition.” by the illustrious Jeff Smith, but I haven’t got a chance to read it all yet. They tell me it is like Disney meets Lord Of The Rings…but whatever, it’s got quiche lovin’ rat creatures, so I’m sold. I can blame the public library for making me buy it, I read the 1st few volumes and was immediately hooked. I hate that whenever I find something good at the library, they are always missing issues, installments, whatever in the middle. I may never finish Samurai Deeper Kyo :(

In other, other news, I have a writing assignment that I have yet to begin for “Creative Writing” six pages of which are due Monday (ACK!). The bad thing is, I used up any remotely decent ideas I had, during the in class warm ups. If anyone could suggest any ideas for short stories, I would be most grateful ^__^

The story can be about most anything, I just can’t think of well, anything lol!

Guess He Won't Be Populating The Earth With His Progeny

So, yeah

Friday, I took Slick to the vet to be neutered. Everything went fine and all is well, I'm happy to report. However...

He keeps runninng into me with his cone! I have to say, I felt a bit guilty @ first, when I put the cone on him. He just looked so pathetic! Now, I think he's worked out a clever plan for revenge. He walks behind me and runs into the back of my legs with that stoooopid cone. It has been worse recently due to weather. When it is rainy out and thundering and lightening, Slick feels the need to be a mere 5 inches away from me at all times. I should be flattered that he seems to think I can protect him, but really if he runs into me one more time tonight, I locking him in the bathroom! (no not really, stop your call to Peta) I have to say also that the cone itself is a miracle. My dog is an obsessive licker anyway, I can't imagine the trouble he'd cause if he could reach those stitches. My cat Cecil, however loooooves the cone and seems to think that I put it on the dog specifically so that he may rub his chin on it.

My poor pup really does put up with so much abuse.

Plans (My Own, Not DCFC’s Fabulous Album)

So, yes this is my weekend to, hopefully, do as I please. I have compiled a nerdrific schedule.

1) The third installment of the “Heir To The Empire” trilogy must be finished. It must I say! Once that is done, I will have to read something completely different. Before this Star Wars Series I had read a Star Trek book, so I think I am done with authorized fan fiction for awhile. I’m thinking of pulling a tragically dusty classic novel of my book shelf or maybe reading another Stephanie Plum novel, but I’ve yet to decide…

2) I fully intend to fill my “slightly cheesy, British Science Fiction Quota” by watching “Torchwood: Children of Earth.” Unintentionally, but nevertheless, the internet has ruined the outcome for me. I know what happens to Ianto Jones t.t

3) I have been for some time contemplated joining the legions of fans who play *drum roll* “World of Warcraft.” Well this weekend, I shall contemplate no longer. I have an enthusiastic co-worker who insists that I give it a whirl, and as such, he has sent me a ten day free trial. So, we’ll see.

In the midst of this smorgasbord of geekiness, I also must find time to be a responsible adult *shudder*

Both the dog and the cats have shots that are due, so I’m going to a shot clinic this Sunday at the civic center. With ALL three of them. Pray for me, I will need prayers to make it through the line. >.<

At some point in all this I also have an assignment due for my online Microeconomics class *sigh*

Anyway, yes. That is the agenda for my geektastic weekend huzah! \O/

Dirty Kitty Pictures (No That Is NOT Innuendo)

So, it has been far too long since I posted cute kitty pics, but at least I have a good reason to do so now.

Earlier,I had my backdoor open with both cats and the dog sitting and staring out of the screen door. I thought nothing of this 'till i looked out the window and saw Cecil outside! One of them created a hole in the screen and all three escaped into the outdoors. Jaguar, not one to let opportunities like this pass by, wasted no time in rolling around and covering himself from head to tail with dirt. Sometimes, owning cats is like babysitting toddlers... I know they are supposedly mature and regal pets, but jeez 'my' cat gets filthy dirty and sits on my furniture and staunchly refuses to groom himself clean. *eyeroll* I happened to have my camera handy so naturally, I photographed the spectacle.

This is Jag’s proper color (yes, I know he is in an odd position, I took this pic while he was sleeping a few days ago…)

And this is what he looks like right now…spreading the filth on my kitchen table

Jag: I am dirty as nature intended

Slinking away from the camera and the proof that he is as bad as the dog when it comes to rolling in the dirt

Jeez, look how brown he is compared to my off-white fridge…

“what?”

There, I hope this fills my kitty pic quota.
Stupid, Stupid Wasp Creatures!

Ughh I am about sick of cleaning out the shed in back yard. My neighbors and I held a joint yard sale yesterday, and will be doing it again this morning. I know that I will feel better once the shed is finally cleaned and I will once again have access to the shed itself. Unfortunately, it is quite tedious work, made dangerous by the copious amounts of wasps that live in this area. Just yesterday morning I was dive bombed and stung on the arm. My aversion to wasp stings makes me reconsider my half baked dreams of one day keeping bees. As far as I can tell though most bee keepers rarely, if ever get stung. Neil Gaiman is my bee keeping hero.

I have another pet hobby occupying my time that takes precedence over a possible future hive. Green snakes. I must own some. I have been trying hard to do my research and setting aside a little paltry amount of my paycheck to put towards habitat decoration. I have a used slightly damaged 20 gal tank that used to house my sisters iguanas. Unfortunately, from what I can tell, only the rough green snake variety is sold in this area and the rough snakes as opposed to the smooth green snake are by and large arboreal. My tank is 20 gal, but long instead of tall. I don’t know if I could construct a terrarium that is tree-like enough to keep them happy. Unlike the hermit crabs, they don’t seem to have any taxing humidity requirements. Having kept the hermit crabs alive for over a year I am encouraged that even in the colder months I could sustain two snakes.

So…unrelated, I’ve been on a “Nightmare Before Christmas” kick again…complete with obsessive listening of the soundtrack whilst I’m cleaning and driving to work. Which in turn has led me to listening to pretty much anything by Danny Elfman. Mostly from his Oingo Boingo years and snippets from Serenada Schizophrana (www.serenadaschizophrana.com).

My current “to do” list now consist of the following: take most everything not sold in the yard sale to the dump, register for fall classes, and slowly, but surely, create a green snake terrarium. *sigh*

More Than Meets The Eye

POSSIBLE TRANSFORMERS SPOILERS! Do not read if ya don't wanna know.

So, yes. I finally saw Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen today. I don't want to whine and complain, because it was really a very good movie but...

1) I DID NOT NEED TO SEE JOHN TUTURROS THONG! I mean really. I think I'm scarred >.<

2) I also did not need to see tiny decepticon leg humping. t.t In my mind robots don't really have genitals so humping a hot chicks leg is kinda pointless...

3) I'm shocked at myself, but i really hated the autobot twins. so much so that I was not at all sad when I thought Devastator ate one of them. Frankly, I was hoping the other twin would join him.

4) Also, I'm a little miffed because of all the autobot cursing. I mean it wasn't even good cursing! If there is such a thing...but ya know sometimes there's times when cursing in a certain way at a certain time makes something funnier...not so in this case. Besides I hate to be the prude here but little bitty kids were in the theater, Transformers is hugely marketed towards kids, it just seems weird that the powers that be would put so much iffy content into what's essentially a kids movie...when it didn't really need any cursing (especially from mostly the good guys) or sexual content.

OK now I am ashamed of my complaining...some good things! My main man (er robot) Optimus got to prove some of his awesomeness in some very decent fight scenes. It was kinda sad and sweet though, a small boy started crying pretty loudly when Optimus died, I was like: awww I bet that's how fans felt back in the day when the animated movie 1st came out. I couldn't tell if he cheered when they resurrected him, some people next to me did. Kill Prime permanently? nonsense he's a money maker, it'd be like marvel killing off Wolverine permanently.

I could probably ramble on and on about this movie both complaining and cheering but I think I'd better stop before my nerdiness is exposed any further o.O For the record, I "squeed" only once (a personal achievement) and I refuse to reveal why 8P

Victory! Yes, I have finally finished reading the fabulous webcomic "Insecticomics" or "In Space No One Can Hear Starscream." Whatever the name is...Or at least I caught up on all 600 comics and can now check in on the updates. I reccomend it if you are a fan of Transformers, photo comics of toys, or just general sarcasm. It's cool if you don't get all the Transformers jokes or recognize all the characters to enjoy it (I myself had to hit Wikipedia a couple times XP). There is just too much Transformers meshed into one website, I think you have to be completely immersed in the TF universe to get all the humor. Kickback, however, is delightfully annoying and chock full of sarcasm.

For those brave enough to make the attempt, here is the link. Enjoy (if you dare).

http://www.insecticons.com/

The only sad thing in all this Insecticon glee, is that I could've been watching my glorious, shiny, new dvd collection: "Blue Seed!" (Thank thank thank you Brittany) but nooooo I had to sift thru 75-80 comics a night instead. Besides, Blue seed and Kusanagi deserve my undivided attention. A whole weekend devoted to a good ole' anime from my past. *Sigh* not that it looks like I'll be having that weekend anytime soon. t.t *sniffle*

It's Alive...It's Aliiiiiiiive!

Miguel is NOT dead!!!

When I came home this evening, I looked in my Hermit Crab cage and to my everlasting glee, I saw a pair of familiar antennas. Yes, it was Miguel, my long lost Hermit Crab. The Fabulous Duo of Tulio Y Miguel remains intact! I could not have asked for a better birthday gift ^__^

In other news:

I have been trained in the ways of CPR and First Aid. We had a class @ work today for First Aid/CPR training. I got a card and everything... o.O

Hopefully, no poor soul will ever find themselves depending on me to render assitancce in a life threatening situation (frankly, I pity the fool...) but the class was pretty awesome all the same.

Why Writer's Strike Why?

So, just finished Season 2 of "The Riches." Eddie Izzard of course, is the main reason that I was drawn to this series. That's not to say Minnie Driver is not awesomely awesome as well, but hey it's Eddie... Anyway, I'd gotten into the show last year and liked the way that the story was told. So naturally, because it's a show that I actually enjoy, they canceled it following the Writer's Guild Strike. Which is sad, because the show was getting even better *sigh* just when things were getting extra interesting hmmf.

In other news, I think one of the Hermit Crabs may be dead. I haven't seen him for a few weeks now. I didn't worry @ first 'cause they are nocturnal and there was the possibility that he was molting. So, even though the hermit crab cage is due to be cleaned, I'm too much of a chicken to dig around in there for fear of what I may find... whaa! t.t

So to ease our pain over the loss of Miguel (fear not Tulio is just fine, I know 'cause he's waving at me with his big claw from his terrarium right now. Ok, so he's not "waving" I just like to think that's what he's doing XP)Here's a scene from "The Road to El Dorado" from which the hermies took their names.

Sadly the video quality kinda sucks...I don't get it youtube has the songs in several different languages...but one video full of clips with decent video? nooooooooo

<lj-embed id="6" />

and because this cracked me up...some "Riches" love and chock full of Eddie humor and goodness ^__^

<lj-embed id="8" />

Awesomesauce Indeed!

Muwhahahahahahaha! I am on ze internet! Why is this so fantastic you may ponder? Well ponder no longer! This ellicits a good hearty cackle from me because I am on the internet @ home and not @ the public library! Yes, that's right friends, I have now joined those most fortunate individuals. Those who have internet @ home! backstory...

With the funds from this years tax return and some savings I bought my 1st evah computer. This, while no biggy for most people, feels momentous for me. Like an accomplishment. Truth be told, it's a little lame for it to have taken me so long to join the technology age and gotten a computer and internet access. In my defense I've been busy w/other stuff that required mai hard earned monies.

So yes, for the curious, my computer is a thing of loviliness. It is a shiny, blue, Dell laptop . I am fairly certain that it is a girl laptop, and as such, I have decided to name her Eleanor. Surely, I am not the only one who has named her computer (not to mention other inanimate household objects).

It’s a Star Trek Movie Jim, But Not As We Know It…

More problems with the new Star Trek? Yes, I’m pathetic. I have been mulling over the ramifications of STs Timeline according to the new movie for weeks now.

Pon Far? In the Star Trek episode: “Amok Time” we learn that Vulcans return to their home planet every 7 years when the time comes to mate. With no planet to return to, do Vulcans just die of sexual frustration? That’s unlikely, but as far as procreation goes if your species spawns like salmon, it is probably not a good idea to let someone blow up your planet of origin. Yeah, yeah Young Spock of the new movie was very valiant in saving the few Vulcans he managed to get off the planet, but did he save any women (maybe I just didn’t notice any chicks)? Assuming a few females did survive or were on other planets, would they still need to return to Vulcan to mate? Or perhaps with Vulcan gone they are free of that restraint. Unless there are no more ladies and the point is irrelevant. There goes the last female! (Think the dodos in Ice Age).

Angry male Vulcan survivors: Dude, Spock why didn’t you save us any womens!!!!???
Spock:…o.O ooops.

Aside from Vulcans possibly no longer being able to get it on in a “let’s continue the species” kind of way, the fundamental problem I see with destroying Vulcan is that if there is no Vulcan, then logically Spock dies in the 2nd film …permanently, and Dr. McCoy would have died of insanity caused by housing Spock’s Katra. And let’s face it Kirk probably would’ve let the guilt destroy him…Everyone dies! Except the red shirts who rise up to take their rightful places as “real characters!” lol! Wait a minnut this isn’t a fan fiction… Let us suppose there was a Vulcan survivor who could perform the "Fal-tor-pan" (the ritual to return Spock’s spirit to his body) on another planet somewhere & Spock could still be resurrected, where would the crew have hidden their Klingon bird of prey? Not many planets I wager would take in the exiled crew. Also, if Spock were really most sincerely dead (sung with a munchkin voice) there would be nothing after Star Trek II, because story lines of every other ST film involves Spock being awesome and more or less saving the day.

On slightly more trivial note, the episode: “Journey to Babylon” might never occur. In the episode, Spock’s Dad is an ambassador for Vulcan. Do exploded planets even need ambassadors? I think not. I suppose it is possible that he would still be an emissary of some type for the remainder of his people. Something else significant happens in that episode also though that bothers me. Spock’s dad needs a blood transfusion, which only Spock can provide. It is “my” belief that it was mostly his mother’s coaxing/begging/slapping/emotional blackmail that convinced Spock to give the transfusion. But according to neeeeew ST mommy is dead, and therefore unable to emotionally guilt her offspring into doing the right thing… by the end of the episode Spock and Sarek seem to have patched up their little 18 year old father son spat. I think the rift ‘tween them doesn’t exist now anyway due to the little “I married yer mum ‘cause I loved her (not her cooking ^__^)” chat the two had at the end of the new movie. Jeez time travel is complicated *phew*

If the case is that there are no women and the handful of Vulcans Young Spock saved are all that is left, then the entire race now faces extinction. Surely, Old Spock would not be down with that? Wouldn’t he have done something to fix the timeline? After all it seems illogical for an entire species to be exterminated just so J.J. Abrams can make his (awesome) movie o.O

I now feel like a dork for having typed all that.

He's Dead, Jim

So yeah, today is my official one year anniversary @ ConocoPhillips. Technically, that is. I actually work for a temp service that pimps err…contracts workers out to various companies. By way of celebration, a fabulous co-worker bought me Chinese food for lunch! Hooray! I had a happy family meal AND scallops and beef! Life is good.

In other news…You SHOULD NOT read the following if you have not seen the new Star Trek movie yet!

Yes, I went to see Star Trek Friday afternoon after work. Let me start by saying that it was indeed a good movie, and I’d readily recommend it to anyone. All the actors played their parts well and were suitable choices. However (bum bum bum!), I’m still not quite sure how I feel about a particular aspect of the movie. Before I go there, I would also like to say that I swear the movie was directed by a 13 year old boy. I only say that because it was like:

“Oh yes you blew that up, very lovely, yes. Oh I see what you did there little Johnny, big boom very nice. Hey do you think we can get back to the story? What? You need more special effects? Oh all right if you insist…yes, yes I know you have a budget now ha ha. Now maybe we can resume the story telling…oh, oh I see you’re just gonna blow that up too…oh…”

I was actually not all that surprised that the film over compensated with so much gratuitous action, I mean that was to be expected.

The thing that is still bothering me is that the movie isn’t really the back stories of Spock and Kirk as it claimed. I really don’t want to give too much away, but what happens is, bad guys go back in time and screw life up for our heroes. The heroes must defeat this new threat to earth’s existence and so on and so forth blah blah blah. When the movie ends however, history was not set right. The things that the bad guys altered when they came back in time were never fixed. So really, the characters in this movie are characters in an alternate universe and not really the characters that launched a 40 year old franchise back in the sixties. That is my feeling anyway. Now, technically, things that occur in the old television series would not come to pass due to the way the past was messed up. The movie is really about the past histories of Alterna-Spock and Alterna-Kirk. I’m not at all sure I like the direction this movie took. What the heck Kirk?! It’s your duty to repair any damage done by renegade, time traveling, aliens! You fail.

I would like to conclude today’s rant by complaining that my favorite character, Doctor McCoy, did not (in my utterly unfair opinion) receive enough screen time. XP I am only willing to overlook this because the creators distracted me with Leonard Nimoy and his awesomeness.

Yeah, anyway.
